HOW MANY WHITE SQUIRRELS ARE THERE?
Since November 2018, I have identified that there are considerably more white and albino squirrels in the UK than estimated. In January 2021, I created the white squirrel form and have received over 1,750 reports of white squirrel sightings across the UK. Although many of these are the same squirrel being spotted, I would estimate that approximately 400 of these are individual sightings.
The majority of the white squirrels within the South East are albino grey squirrels. The highest numbers I have recorded are within East Sussex, West Sussex, Kent, Surrey and London, although they are widespread throughout the UK, with sightings as far North as Perthshire in Scotland and St Austell, Cornwall in the West. I sometimes receive multiple sightings of more than one.
I continue to gather sightings across the UK. My studies will hopefully help wildlife experts and scientists to understand why there are so many albino squirrels in the UK.
